I don't know what Kiki was thinking serving raw flour and butter as part of her quickfire. I guess you could compare it to cookie dough, but it sounds inedible to me. Blitz up some nuts instead!
I felt so bad for Kiki. It must have been gutting to be on the bottom in this one. Thanks for continuing these posts! Your top chef recaps have long been the only TV recaps worth a shit.
I knew Kiki was in trouble as soon as she made fufu. I can't remember which judges it was, but when its been done it the past, most them don't like it. And while they try to be respectful of its place in African cuisine, you can tell they still don't like. It doesn't seem just related to this show either. From what I've seen of it on other shows, its definitely one of those like it or hate it foods with no in between. I've never had it but apparently the texture is the thing that most people have an issue with.
There was another chef who really got in his head and too emotional about a challenge, maybe Gregory and his strained relationship with his father, and they didn't execute. Reminded me of Kiki's performance today.
This was a great episode. I loved hearing Greggory and Kwame talk to the cheftatants and every getting to experience the food. It's definitely not food I'm familiar with but damn, do I want to find a Haitian restaurant near me.
Loved Dawn scoring the win too. Given that when she doesn't plate she never ends up with a 'least favorite dish', you had to know she had some great flavors and cook ability, and here we are! I'm guessing she's going to be a forced to be reckoned. That's two top showings with a win.
Also loving Jamie turning it around. I'm hoping this is a season where the frontrunners shift a lot.

This definitely seems to be a course correction from Eric Adjepong's season, where the judges often had no idea what he was serving him. It was an injustice he didn't get to make his meal for the finale. I'm glad he finale did get to make that meal: https://www.foodandwine.com/news/eric-adjepong-top-chef-finale-meal-transatlantic-slave-trade-dinner-craft
loving your entertaining commentary : )

Interesting how little Gabriel seemed to try.
