I felt the show shift in the nice/supportive direction in the Colorado season. Maybe it was the casting, but it also switched up its visual and production style. I think they cut back on using the Stew Room that season, too. Having all the chefs present for Judges Table really helps foster a family vibe in the competition.

I'm happy Jamie's back. Beep boop zwooooooop.

Glad you mentioned everyone being super nice and supportive. I've been pandemic-binging some of the early seasons, and everyone hates each other and sucks (thanks certainly in large part to editing and producer choices). But...maybe everyone is TOO supportive and nice this season? I was enjoying the vibes at first, but now it's almost boring. Feels like Top Chef doing Great British Bakeoff. Hopefully Restaurant Wars livens things up a bit.
